This Obie-award-winning, heartbreaking and raucously entertaining show has inspired a generation. Through head-banging anthems and heartfelt rock ballads, Hedwig describes her life’s search for “The Origin of Love” and a reunion with her other half. It’s a rocking ride – funny, touching, and ultimately inspiring to anyone who feels life gave them an inch when they deserved a mile.

“Sublimely trashy and surprisingly powerful” – Los Angeles Times

Character Breakdown:
This musical explores and celebrates gender in all forms. We encourage ALL to submit.
Any age (19+). Any Gender. Any Ethnicity. Come rock out, and show us your stuff.

Hedwig:
A fourth-wall smashing East German rock n’ roll goddess who also happens to be the victim of a botched sex-change. Needs to be comfortable improvising, getting up close and personal with audiences, and of course, being a down right diva.

Vocal range: high baritone to tenor, A2 – E5 with a strong rock/musical theatre belt

Yitzhak:
A Jewish drag queen from Zagreb who is in an unhealthy, codependent relationship with Hedwig. Hedwig no longer allows him to be in femme drag, verbally abuses him throughout the evening, and it becomes clear that she is threatened by his natural talent, which eclipses her own. Needs to be comfortable improvising, being close to audiences, and belting the shit out of songs.

Vocal range: mezzo-soprano, D4 to A5 with a strong high belt.

How to submit:
Please send an email labelled HEDWIG SUBMISSION_YOUR NAME to info@zeezeetheatre.ca with your headshot & resume/bio by March 29. Tell us a little about yourself in the body of the email.

Early submissions are appreciated. Vancouver-locals will be prioritized for auditions. Out of town artists are welcome to email expressions of interest.
